France's Constitutional Council removes three parliamentarians from politics

(MENAFN) France’s highest constitutional authority has removed three parliamentarians—Jean Laussucq, Stéphane Vojetta, and Brigitte Barèges—from office and prohibited them from political activities for a year due to breaches of campaign finance rules in the 2024 elections. The body declared that their campaigns were conducted improperly, which resulted in the cancellation of their mandates and an immediate one-year ban from political participation.

The verdict revealed that Laussucq financed campaign costs through his personal bank account, with a notable share of the money sourced from third parties. Barèges was found guilty of submitting fake invoices and involving municipal workers from Montauban in her campaign finances. Meanwhile, Vojetta faced disqualification because of irregularities concerning travel expenses during his election campaign.

New elections will take place in the electoral districts formerly represented by the three disqualified lawmakers.
